Work on the new La Mata pavilion in Torrevieja should be completely completed before the end of the year

Torrevieja/March 29, 2024

At the beginning of March, the mayor of Torrevieja Eduardo Dolon, accompanied by sports councilor Diana Box, ORTHEM director Ramon Guijalba and area residents, visited the works at the La Mata municipal sports hall, located between Delfin, France and Avenida de los Daneses streets.

During the visit, the mayor announced that work is progressing at a very good pace, so it is expected that before the end of this year 2024 this sports infrastructure, which is highly desired by the residents of La Mata, will be fully completed, accelerating the set deadline, which is 18 months.

The project manager, Ramón Guijalba, reported that the La Mata pavilion, which has a construction budget of about 6 million euros, will change the format of its main facade to a more eye-catching one, which will allow the building to be better protected from sunlight.

Among the pavilion's features, the first floor will include a gymnasium of more than 100 sqm, as well as two multi-purpose rooms of 95 sqm each, which can be unified and will be used for meetings and social and cultural activities to meet the growing demand in this area of Torrevieja, as well as locker rooms for teams and judges, restrooms, an outdoor lobby, a cafeteria and a locker room.

In addition, the basement, which has been built in the pavilion, will accommodate various amenities, and will also serve as a storage area, so that the first floor will have more services for its users.

La Mata Pavilion will have a 44 x 23-meter multipurpose court, suitable for sports such as indoor soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball and badminton, according to specific regulations of the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD). In addition, the building allows for a transverse layout to connect the several simultaneous events and will be able to accommodate 400 people with a multi-level seating area with almost 200 seats.
