What the ocupas phenomenon is almost everyone already knows (and if not, we refer you to our earlier articles). However, that the phenomenon would take such an absurd turn, no one would have expected. Recently, courses have popped up in Seville that teach you how to become an okupas. No, it's not a joke. A kind of "academy" has been set up in the city, where you can learn how to effectively and legally, within the limits of Spanish law, occupy someone else's apartment.
The training courses not only cover the theoretical aspects of occupation, but also include practical workshops where participants learn how to open locks and connect illegally to electricity or water. What seemed unimaginable not long ago is now becoming a reality - in the light of day, without restraint, a place is operating in Seville that formally teaches how to occupy someone's property without their permission. And what.'s more, it all takes place in public spaces belonging to the municipality, which the city authorities unfortunately turn a blind eye to.
As reported in the local press, these courses are even advertised online, with their organizers proudly offering "occupyas workshops" where they discuss legal issues, among other things. This is not only a blatant example of ignoring the law, but also a way to increase a problem that has long plagued Spain. According to reports, conferences have also been held in buildings used by occupas in Seville, where participants can expect a vegan meal during breaks, which only underscores the grotesqueness of the whole situation.
The fact that such an "academy" exists has sparked outrage, especially among residents and politicians. VOX, one of Spain's parties, has referred questions on the matter to the Congress of Deputies, noting the danger this situation poses to property owners and local communities. One thing is certain - this is not just a legal problem, but also a moral one, which is affecting an increasing number of Spaniards.
On the one hand, we have people who are losing their homes, and on the other - institutions that instead of counteracting this phenomenon. The ransomware problem in Spain is reaching new and disturbing heights, and Seville has become a symbol of this absurdity. If the situation escalates, we can expect even more social tensions and more violations of the law, which for many people means living in constant fear for their own property.
We encourage you to read our earlier article, in which we discuss effective ways to secure property from unwanted tenants.
