What will surprise you in Spain?

Lifestyle/May 25, 2024

Spain, full of fascinating attractions, also hides little secrets that may surprise visitors. Here are a few things you may not expect:

1. Doors without handles:
Traditional Spanish doors to the outside have no handles, and instead you'll find a centrally located, stationary knob. Be sure to remember your keys when leaving the house!

2. Small beer:
The popular caña is only 0.33 liters of beer, which may surprise those accustomed to larger portions.

3. No kettles:
In most Spanish houses you won't find electric kettles, but in tourist apartments they are usually available.

4. Heating:
Even in hot Spain it can be chilly in winter. Many apartments don't have central heating, especially on the coast, which, combined with thin walls and leaky windows, can make interiors unexpectedly cold.

5. Shoes at home:
Spaniards wear shoes indoors, which may be unusual for tourists accustomed to walking in slippers.

6. Tea:
In Spain mint or chamomile is more popular than traditional tea.

7. 10:00 p.m. and alcohol:
Shops in Spain do not sell alcohol after 10:00 p.m., which may come as a surprise to those who are used to having free access 24 hours a day.

When traveling in Spain, be aware of these surprises that make traveling even more exciting!
