GVA Salut - remote access to the health care system

Technology/January 14, 2025

The application that the Comunitat Valenciana provides for users who are in the public health system to manage reports and medical appointments is called GVA Salut, is free and very easy to use.

This app, in addition to allowing us to make an appointment with a doctor/nurse/specialist, allows us to see which health centers or hospitals we are assigned to, download and view medical reports or prescriptions.

For starters, we can download the app from both Play Store on Android, App Store on Apple and App Gallery Huawei.

Once downloaded and installed on our device, the app will ask us to log in when we open it. Various login methods are available:

  • Digital certificate (you can check out our issue #1 to learn how to get a digital certificate)
  • By SMS, here the application will ask you to enter your SIP number (it's on the health card we wrote about in the May issue of the newspaper), your date of birth and the date the SIP card was issued (you'll find it under the SIP number as “expedició”). If all the data is correct, you will receive an SMS message to the phone you registered with your health center when you made your health card.
  • Scanning the SIP card, this option activates the phone's camera so that you can scan the SIP card from the barcode side, in addition, you will be asked to enter your date of birth.

After logging in, a notification will appear asking if we want to activate biometrics for future accesses (provided our phone has biometric features).

On the main screen we have options and information about: our active appointments, our prescriptions, and medical certificates if they will be needed for presentation at work or elsewhere where they will be required.

In the “Resumen de citas” (Visit Summary) we can see future active visits, these can be visits to a family doctor, to a nurse or to a specialist.

Also available option to make an appointment, options are:

  • family doctor,
  • nurse or sexual care (used to obtain the morning-after pill or get tested for sexually transmitted diseases).

Visits can be either in-person or by phone. With a telephone consultation, there is no problem getting a prescription and filling it later, you just need to go to the pharmacy with your health card to get the prescribed drugs.

In “Resumen Farmacia ” (Pharmacy Summary), we will see the active treatment (what medications, how many pills per day and/or at what time to take them and for how long), as well as the medications we need to buy for treatment.

In “Resumen Justificante ” (Summary of Certificates), we can see and retrieve the medical certificates that have been generated, as well as generate new certificates for medical visits you have attended.

The GVA Salut application offers many other features that we can use:

On the main screen in the upper right corner is a bell that shows notifications from our health center or Generalitat Valenciana, where you may see information about needed vaccinations, advice on avoiding dehydration in the sun, sun protection on beaches, etc.

In the upper left corner there is a menu that we can open, in this menu we can see our data, whether we are registered in the public health system, our social security number and, for example, the amount of subsidy for prescribed drugs.

We can add more users in the menu to keep track of medical appointments, etc. For example, if we have children, partner, siblings, etc., we can add them to the app to have full tracking.

We will also be able to see which health centers and hospitals we are assigned to visit in case of need or emergency.

If we have a family member or friend/acquaintance who is undergoing surgery or treatment at some facility or hospital, we can check the status through the app if we have a tracking number, this number can be had by the patient himself or can be given to us by the health center or hospital.

Finally, the GVA Salut app allows us to view and download our medical history, this is only available if we have been treated in Spain and only by the public health system, if we have been treated in private hospitals, we will not have access to the private treatment history. We have the option to download the COVID vaccination certificate if we were vaccinated in Spain.

As we can see, the GVA Salut app is very useful if you live in the Comunitat Valenciana and one of its provinces, because there will be other apps available outside the community, each autonomous community has its own.
