A Stellar Love Story

Entertainment/Febuary 12, 2024

With Valentine's Day approaching, let's talk about love. But not about ordinary love, but about the one that is written in the sky, in the stars. Those stars that are always there for you, whether you are in love or single. With its rich mythology and presence in the night sky, Orion, also known as the Hunter, is the perfect romantic theme for the upcoming Valentine's Day.

The handsome hunter and his love conquests
Orion, one of the most recognizable constellations in the sky, is visible on winter nights in the northern hemisphere. Located on the line of the celestial equator, it actually looks like a hunter with three bright stars forming "Orion's Belt" - his so characteristic feature. In Greek mythology, Orion was an eminently handsome hunter who easily fell in love with beautiful women.

Orion and the seven sisters
One of the stories we still see in the night sky today is his impulsive love for the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. The infatuated hunter pursued them so long and relentlessly until finally Zeus placed Orion in the sky as a constellation along with his dogs, forming the constellations Big Dog and Little Dog right next to the Pleiades, in close proximity but never enough for him to be able to catch up with them. Moreover, according to another version of the myth, Orion's death itself was also directly related to love.

Orion and the Moon Goddess
Orion fell in love with Artemis, the goddess of the moon and hunting. Her brother, Apollo, was jealous of their relationship and decided to end it, leading Orion to the scorpion that killed him. After his death, Artemis was so distraught that she placed him in the sky, creating the constellation Orion. The goddess herself meets her beloved during her walks in the night sky in the form of the moon.

Valentine's Day 2024 full of stellar love
This year, in honor of Valentine's Day, take a look up at the sky and try to spot Orion. You can imagine how Orion is still chasing its love interest across the sky, still craving love even though it is so far away. Star gazing can be a great idea for a romantic date. Imagine warm blankets, a thermos full of hot chocolate, and in the background - bright stars in the sky. It can also be a great opportunity to talk about the myths and legends associated with the stars. Who doesn't love a good story, especially when it involves passionate romance and difficult choices love? Let's make this Valentine's Day a little different! Instead of buying expensive gifts or booking a table at a restaurant, let's look for simple joys. It can be just observing the sky, talking about love whose stories are written in the stars, and enjoying each other's company - after all, that's what Valentine's Day is really all about. Let's remember that love, like the stars, is eternal. No matter where we are, regardless of the seasons, we can always find love in the sky. Just like the constellation Orion, we too are part of this universal story of love.
