miDGT: Manage vehicles online

Technology/April 09, 2024

The General Directorate of Traffic (Dirección General de Tráfico DGT in Spanish) is a government entity that controls and archives everything related to Spanish roads, vehicles with Spanish license plates and users with Spanish driver's licenses.

In March 2020. DGT launched a mobile app so that users can manage their vehicles and data through a digital platform without having to go to central offices.

In this article, we will look at the highlights of the app.

The miDGT app can be downloaded from the Google Play platform for Android and the Apple Store for Apple devices.

Once downloaded and launched, you will need to log in by choosing one of the available methods.

The first of which is the Cl@ve PIN method. If you have never used this system before, at the time of registration you will be asked for a digital certificate (which we wrote about in issue #1 of the Poland Costa newspaper) to log in and register your Cl@ve PIN on the your mobile device and confirm identities with a video call. Once you have validated the Cl@ve PIN, you will be able to use this tool to log in to miDGT.

The second option (and the one we recommend) is to use the digital certificate installed on your device to log in immediately and without any problems (if you do not have a digital certificate yet, visit www.polska-costa.com, where you will find an article describing how to obtain one).

The least recommended option is to log in using your personal information, in this case it is necessary to DGT already had your information registered, as well as your cell phone number, as they will send you an SMS message to confirm your identity. If you are not registered with DGT, do not use this login method.

Once you enter the app, the first screen you will see will be the main screen with your driver's license (only if it is a Spanish license) and vehicles registered in your name (vehicles with Spanish license plates).

If you have a Spanish driver's license, you can click "View my license driving" to check the number of points you have, information about your driver's license, such as the types of vehicles you can drive, the date of issue and expiration date, etc.

If you have vehicles with Spanish license plates registered in your name, you can access them and see important information such as registration number, vehicle data, assigned environmental badge, insurance, vehicle mileage recorded at the last technical inspection, the date of the next technical inspection (ITV) or its expiration, etc.

This is very useful so that we can keep track of when we need to or we should undergo a technical inspection and insure the car.

Another great feature of this application is the management of fines imposed by DGT on our vehicles. We will be able to see the infraction, its date, location and the amount to be paid, in the same way we will be able to pay the fine or indicate that the person driving the vehicle was another person (we will always have to somehow prove who was driving the vehicle). This section of the application is very useful for all those who rent their vehicles, they will be able to see and manage fines.

Another interesting feature of this application is to request a vehicle report. Here we have two modes, a basic report and a full report. DGT offers an information service so that a user who wants to compare a used car will have some information about the vehicle he intends to buy, for example: how many kilometers the vehicle has been driven, how many owners it has had, or whether it has passed a technical inspection. The basic report is free, but does not provide much information about the vehicle, while the full report costs €8.67 * and includes all the information about the vehicle. Ordering it is very simple, just enter the registration number and that's it.

miDGT also offers the possibility to order duplicate vehicle documents in case they are lost or destroyed. Each document has a price and is sent to your home address.

DGT has given us a very useful tool to manage our vehicles, we sincerely recommend installing it on your device and checking out its capabilities. The application is constantly being developed and updated, but already with miDGT we can easily manage our vehicles, fines and documents without having to leave home. Note, however, that in order to be able to log in, you need at least a digital certificate (how to get one can be find out at www.polska-costa.com).

Summary The miDGT app enables drivers to perform a wide range of online activities, facilitating the management of vehicles and traffic-related data. Here are some key features of the app:

• 1. Driver's License Management: Spanish driver's license holders can check points, license information, types of vehicles to drive, issue and expiration dates, etc.

• 2. Vehicle Monitoring: Users with vehicles registered in Spain can obtain access to information such as registration number, vehicle data, environmental badge, insurance, mileage and maintenance date

• 3. Fine Management: The application allows you to track and pay fines imposed by DGT, including information on offenses, dates, locations and amounts to be paid.

• 4. Vehicle Reports: Two types of reports are available - basic and full reports. They help to obtain information about the vehicle in use, such as number of owners, mileage, maintenance, etc.

• 5. Duplicate Documents: Users can order duplicate vehicle documents in case of loss or destruction

The introduction of the miDGT app allows for convenient and efficient management of traffic-related aspects, minimizing the need for visits to central offices and efficient monitoring of vehicles.
