Opening of the First Section of Work on Replacing the Pavement and Repairing the Dique De Levante Breakwater
On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the partial acceptance of the first section of the Dique de Levante breakwater replacement and repair work was carried out. The event was announced by the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, who visited the investment on the day of its opening along with the contractor's construction manager, Julián Morales.
The section that opened includes the section from the connection of the entertainment center and the Juan Aparicio promenade, up to the plaza where the Bella Lola statue is located. The acceptance also included the first two stairways leading to the promenade.
With this opening, residents gained access to new infrastructural elements, such as 350 running meters of a bench serving as a cover (botaola type), manufactured specifically for this project. The new paving consists of solid planks of engineered wood, anchored on a fiberglass-reinforced resin truss grid.
The balustrades and pillars of the stainless steel pergola have undergone passivation and advanced polishing treatments, achieving a final finish. Also new is the installation of trash cans and water drinkers along the entire length of the breakwater promenade.
Sail-shaped beams (elements of the original structure) have been restored in the various plazas, again creating a shade zone. They were equipped with new benches, oriented toward the newly created vantage points to the open sea - an element that was previously missing.
The first stage of acceptance covered a total length of 450 linear meters of the overhanging breakwater promenade and the complete opening of the lower zone up to the "lighthouse cape." It also included the complete acceptance of public and architectural lighting. The investment is financed by the Reconstruction, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation funds) and is part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Valencia Regional Government (Turisme Comunitat Valenciana), to the tune of €895,073.
Spectacular architectural lighting has been designed to create different lighting scenes through linear lighting on the upper platform and projectors below the platform, illuminating the breakwater wall.
The schedule for further work calls for a second acceptance on February 15, and final completion on March 27, 2026.
The entire revitalization work of the Dique de Levante breakwater covers 1,247 linear meters at an investment of €6,543,733 (including VAT).
