Exciting inauguration of Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra's 2024/25 season

Culture/October 22, 2024

Some 1,400 people were the recipients of a magical concert held at the Auditorium Internacional, featuring the Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro José Francisco Sánchez. The program was dominated by illustrations created for cinema, TV series and video games, generally in new, specially prepared arrangements by Pedro Contreras.

Maestro Sánchez divided the program into four blocks, beginning the concert with examples of music from classic action films. The main theme of the film "Exodus" was an excellent prelude that seamlessly and naturally connected emotionally to the rest of the themes of this classic first part, where we could admire still excerpts from: "The Magnificent Seven," "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," with a fantastic-sounding whistle by Kurt Savoy, and "Gladiator," where the solo part was beautifully sung by Lucia Espana.

Over the past decades, film music has, in many cases, become independent in such a way that some musical excerpts from romantic films already live a life of their own, independent of the film. This category includes the musical themes of films such as: "Candilejas," "Gone with the Wind," "Love is Wonderful," "What a Wonderful World" and "Audition"; "la la land".

In the second part of the concert, undoubtedly a big surprise was the presentation of soundtracks of famous TV series and computer games in concert version. This category has come a long way from primitive sounds to epic orchestrations that are a fundamental part of the gaming experience. The orchestra and maestro Sánchez offered the following examples: "The Legend of Zelda," "The Simpsons," "Super Mario, Bros Odyssey," "Moving Castle of Hauru," "Fornite" and "Game of Thrones".

The fourth block of performers was devoted to Video Adventures music. This genre was extremely popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Thanks to our orchestra, a large part of the audience for the first time could immerse ourselves in the world of strange fantasies, with which our children mainly interacted. we had the opportunity to listen to the following musical excerpts: "Willy Fog Around the World," "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Once Upon a Time," "Back to the Future" and " The Never-ending Story"

In conclusion, during the concert by the Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro J.F. Sánchez, we experienced a journey to different moments of our lives. It was a magnificent presentation, in which dramatic and romantic elements were combined in an extremely emotional way. An undoubted highlight of the concert was the performance of the wonderful vocalist Lucia Espana, as well as the excellent artist Kurt Savoy, who was able to captivate the audience with his extraordinary whistling skills. Among the many solo instrumental passages, the solos of; violin and cello stood out, completing the extraordinary musical variety of color. We witnessed an exceptionally attractive concert, an important element in the success of which was the symbiosis between Director Sánchez and the orchestra, bringing to life an ensemble-integrated and colorful sound. The concert ended with a standing ovation y encore of an excerpt from "Mission Impossible." A truly wonderful evening. CONGRATULATIONS.
