High Turnout for the New Edition of the Francisco Casanovas Inclusive Music Course in Torrevieja
Last Saturday, October 24, marked the launch of the latest edition of the Inclusive Music Course, organized by the Francisco Casanovas Tallarda Music and Cultural Association in Torrevieja. The project—true to the pedagogical legacy of Maestro Casanovas—aims to make music accessible to everyone, without barriers or limitations.
The initiative is aimed at participants of all ages from various countries, including musicians with visual, hearing, and mobility impairments. The open format has generated tremendous interest—as many as 70 people are participating in this year’s edition, matching last year’s excellent turnout.
Comprehensive Education and an Accessible Orchestra
Classes are held on Saturday mornings at the Colegio Cuba school in Torrevieja. The program includes music education at two proficiency levels (I and II) as well as orchestra workshops, in which wind, string, and percussion instruments are combined with modern electronic instruments.
Luis Sánchez, a native of Torrevieja, is responsible for the substantive and pedagogical aspects of the program. He is a music lecturer at the University of Murcia and an active member of the research group “Inclusive Education: School for All” (Spanish: Educación Inclusiva: Escuela para Todos). His experience guarantees the highest standards of inclusive pedagogy.
A packed concert schedule and a social mission
The new edition will feature traditional joint auditions and concerts, during which the orchestra section will join forces with the other participants to form a large choir. These performances will take place at the prestigious Palacio de la Música in Torrevieja:
- February 11 at 8:00 p.m.
- May 13 at 8:00 p.m.
The association also continues its highly acclaimed series of “therapeutic and wellness concerts.” Last season, the musicians gave about fifteen performances at hospitals, nursing homes, and the headquarters of local organizations and associations in Torrevieja and surrounding towns. The next event as part of this initiative is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the APAEX Torrevieja headquarters.
