This reaccreditation reaffirms Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital’s position as one of the leading centers providing the highest standards of patient care.

Torrevieja, June 29, 2026 – Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital has once again been awarded the Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Certificate—the most prestigious and rigorous international accreditation in healthcare. This distinction confirms the highest quality of clinical processes, a high level of patient safety, and the facility’s consistent commitment to the continuous improvement of the quality of its medical services.

This year’s reaccreditation is particularly significant because it was granted following a successful audit conducted in accordance with the 8th edition of the Joint Commission International standards, which introduces a much more comprehensive and rigorous assessment model than previous editions. During the process, JCI experts evaluated more than 1,500 quality standards covering all areas of the hospital’s operations—from clinical care and process management to digital transformation and sustainable development.

The auditors particularly commended the facility’s implementation of modern digital tools that support the accuracy of diagnostics and patient monitoring, as well as its efforts to promote energy efficiency and responsible resource management.

Receiving this latest accreditation reaffirms Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital’s position as a leader in the quality of medical care. It is worth noting that this was the first Quirónsalud Group hospital in the Valencian Community to receive JCI accreditation—for the first time in 2023.

Patient Safety-Focused Assessment

Accreditation by Joint Commission International is recognized as a global benchmark for assessing the quality of health care. The assessment model involves a detailed analysis of all hospital processes to ensure safe, effective, and continuously improved patient care.

Among other things, the audit assessed the degree of implementation of the International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG), developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). These include accurate patient identification, effective communication among healthcare staff, the safe use of medications, the prevention of healthcare-associated infections, and the reduction of risks associated with surgical procedures.

The audit also confirmed the well-established position of Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital as a leading center providing comprehensive medical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This is evidenced by the steady increase in the number of services provided and the continuous expansion of its range of highly specialized medical services.

A culture of excellence built by the entire team

This reaccreditation is a recognition of the work of all employees at Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, who together foster a culture of safety that is an integral part of the facility’s daily operations. This strategy involves both medical and administrative staff in the ongoing process of defining, analyzing, and improving procedures, all with the shared goal of providing patients with an even higher level of safety and quality of care.

The audit team particularly highlighted the high standard of medical care, the staff’s excellent qualifications, and the entire organization’s strong commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and patient safety.

Joint Commission International accreditation is renewed every three years and requires a comprehensive re-evaluation in accordance with the international standards used by the world’s leading hospitals. This process motivates accredited facilities to continuously improve the quality of their services and to continue developing.

What is Joint Commission International?

Joint Commission International (JCI) is an independent, nonprofit organization that has been operating in more than 100 countries since the 1990s, supporting improvements in the quality of health care and patient safety. The accreditation it grants is recognized as the most prestigious international quality standard in healthcare. The evaluation process involves a detailed analysis of all aspects related to patient care and the management of the healthcare facility.

Nine Quirónsalud Group facilities are accredited by Joint Commission International

In 2022, the Quirónsalud Group received Joint Commission International Enterprise accreditation, which it successfully renewed in 2025 in accordance with the current three-year reaccreditation cycle. This prestigious distinction serves as international recognition of the Group’s commitment to continuously improving the quality of care and creating a safe treatment environment in all of its hospitals. At the same time, it reflects an organizational culture based on quality management, risk mitigation, and ensuring the best possible patient experience during treatment.

During the initial assessment, JCI auditors identified the Quirónsalud Group’s solid management model, high standard of medical care, highly qualified staff, and strong culture of continuous improvement as its main strengths.

During the most recent reaccreditation process, the experts particularly commended the maturity of the management system, the effective use of data, the high standards of organizational governance and leadership, the coherence of the strategy, and the ability to effectively implement the same quality standards across all of the Group’s facilities.

Currently, nine Quirónsalud Group facilities are accredited by Joint Commission International:

  • Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital (Madrid)
  • Quirónsalud University Hospital in Pozuelo (Madrid)
  • La Luz University Hospital (Madrid)
  • Teknon Medical Center (Barcelona)
  • Quirónsalud Hospital Barcelona
  • Dexeus University Hospital (Barcelona)
  • Quirónsalud Córdoba Hospital
  • Quirónsalud Hospital in Torrevieja
  • Imbanaco Clinic (Cali, Colombia)

This reaccreditation reinforces the Quirónsalud Group’s strategy, which aims to achieve the highest standards of medical care through a management model based on continuous improvement. Systematic monitoring of quality indicators and the setting of specific development goals that engage all levels of the organization play a key role.

At the same time, the Group is implementing a wide-ranging digital transformation aimed at increasing process efficiency, reducing the administrative burden on medical staff, and enabling doctors and nurses to devote more time to providing individualized patient care. Sustainable development is also an integral part of this strategy, achieved through responsible actions that promote the creation of a safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly healthcare system.
