Alicante announces traffic difficulties this Friday due to the passage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana race

Sports/

**The third stage of the cycling race between Orihuelá and Sant Vicent del Raspeig will enter the city from Urbanova and leave via Dénia Avenue

Alicante City Council has announced planned roadblocks this Friday, February 6, from 15:00 to 16:45. The difficulties are related to the passage of the cycling race Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. Restrictions on vehicle traffic will affect the Urbanova neighborhood, access to the Alicante-Elche airport via the N-332 road, the bus station, and the entire coastal strip, up to the Dénia Avenue (Avenida de Dénia) exit from the city.

City officials also added that there will be a total parking ban along the entire race route. Cars must be removed from the route as early as 22:00 on Thursday, February 5. Services will also conduct street blockades on all roads approaching the race route.

Recommendations for drivers

Councilman for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, recommended using the city's ring roads, such as Gran VĂa and VĂa Parque, and the A7 highway, while avoiding the coastal strip between 3pm and 5pm.

"The local police will organize appropriate detours to allow the race to pass during these two hours, so motorists are advised to plan their travel between three and five o'clock in the afternoon." - added the councilman.

Race route and obstructed areas

The third stage of the race will cover much of the province. After starting in Orihuela, the peloton will enter the municipality of Alicante from the provincial capital and ride along the entire coast. The group, consisting of 126 riders, will then head up Dénia Avenue toward San Juan, reach the vicinity of the Santa Faz monastery and continue toward the municipalities of Jijona and Agost. The finish of the stage, totaling 158 kilometers, is in Sant Vicent del Raspeig.

In the municipality of Alicante itself, traffic difficulties will be concentrated on the axis starting from the N-332 road (at the border with Elche, at the level of Saladar de Aguamarga). The route then goes through:

  • Avenida de Elche,
  • Plaza del Arquitecto Miguel LĂłpez,
  • Paseo de Loring,
  • Paseo Mártires de la Libertad,
  • Puerta del Mar,
  • Avenida Juan Bautista Lafora,
  • Calle Jovellanos,
  • Avenida de DĂ©nia (all the way to Sant Joan).

At the latter point, the passage of the race column will take place through underground passages, in order to minimize the impact on traffic.

Isolation of neighborhoods and access to the airport

The authorities have prepared an alternative route to the airport from the center of Alicante, which will be marked and located between the intersection of roads N-332 and N-340 on Elche Avenue.

Particular difficulties await residents of the Urbanova district, which will remain cut off from the rest of the city during the passage of the "color snake" (peloton). It is estimated that this will last about 90 minutes. Access to the bus station will also be restricted.

Officials from City Hall explain that by routing the peloton through underpasses on Dénia Avenue, the intersections on the surface with Canónigo Manuel Penalva Street, Pintor Xavier Soler Avenue (Gran Vía), Deportista Alejandro Quereda Avenue (Vía Parque) and the junction with the A-70 highway will remain open to traffic. Please note, however, that there will be no possibility of entering Dénia Avenue itself or using the exits leading to it.
