Day of Poles and Poles Abroad - May 2
Every year on May 2, in addition to the Polish Flag Day, we celebrate the Day of Poles and Poles Abroad. This is a special holiday dedicated to all Compatriots living outside Poland - those who have been building bridges between Poland and the world for generations.
The holiday highlights the strength of ties, pride in one's Polish ancestry and the daily contribution of the Polish community to nurturing their language, culture and traditions. Whether one has lived in Spain for a few years or for several generations, May 2 is an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be Polish outside the country. It is a day of gratitude for the fact that thousands of kilometers away from our homeland, we still remember Polish values, sing Polish songs, cook Polish food and pass on our love of Polish heritage to our children.
The Polish community in Spain is one of the most dynamic and active groups of Polonia in Europe. There are Polish Saturday schools, cultural associations, folklore groups and integration initiatives in Catalonia and throughout Spain. Poles organize concerts, workshops, holiday gatherings and charity events. Thanks to you, Polishness is also visible and alive on Spanish soil - from Barcelona to Madrid to the Canary Islands.
On this day, many Poles living in Spain fly a red and white flag on their balcony or in their window. It is a simple but very meaningful gesture - a sign of respect and attachment. For some, it's also an opportunity to have a family get-together, share a meal or participate in events organized by local Polish communities.
The Polish community in Spain shows that Polishness does not depend on where you live. It is primarily an attitude, memory and a heart open to others. Thanks to your activity, Poland is closer, and Spanish society has the opportunity to become better acquainted with our culture, hospitality and energy.
