On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, Hospital Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja has unveiled a commemorative mural that highlights, year by year, the most important events shaping the facility's history. Since opening in 2000, the hospital has built a model of health care based on medical excellence, clinical innovation and personalized patient care. Under the slogan “Our Story, Your Health,” the new mural - a timeline of sorts - gives patients, specialists and visitors a chance to look back at the moments that defined the hospital's leadership, growth and commitment to modern, humanistic medicine.
25 years of leading change
The mural not only collects the most important achievements since 2000, but also stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit that has distinguished Hospital Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja from the beginning. Over the course of 25 years, the facility has repeatedly been ahead of its time, being the first in Spain to implement medical techniques and approaches that have changed the way patients are treated.
These achievements include the introduction of the HIPEC technique (intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy) in 2001 for the treatment of peritoneal cancer; in 2004, the use of intraoperative radiotherapy using a mobile gas pedal (MOBETRON), for the first time in Spain; the creation of the first Genetic Counseling Unit in the Valencian Community in 2007; and in 2008, the installation of the first Da Vinci surgical robot in the region. In 2009, the hospital performed the country's first series of pancreatic cancer surgeries using robotics, and in 2010 launched an ambitious transcriptomics program for personalized oncology. Most recently, it achieved international Joint Commission (JCI) accreditation in 2023, and in 2025 began using artificial intelligence in clinical diagnostics through tools such as the Scribe system, which is being implemented at all Quir贸nsalud centers. These are just a few examples of the many milestones that have established the hospital as a leader in medical innovation, technical excellence and patient-centered care.
Each of these moments represents a consistent commitment to medical excellence, technology at the service of the patient, and an approach to health based on foresight and continuous improvement.

The mural includes 12 QR codes leading to short videos in which the very experts behind these achievements talk about their significance in an up-close and human way. Among the characters:

Through these videos, visitors can learn firsthand what it has meant for each of them to introduce previously little-known techniques to the country, and how these decisions have helped strengthen the hospital's clinical excellence.
History that lasts: the present with a vision of the future
The mural ends with the latest developments, such as the implementation of artificial intelligence for medical records, structured clinical pathways and an ambitious Master Plan that will completely transform the hospital in the coming years. The plan calls for the expansion of the ICU, operating rooms, specialty clinics and critical areas, as well as the construction of a new emergency building and a therapeutic procedures unit.
In addition, Hospital Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability through a phased decarbonization plan and promoting health-promoting initiatives such as a healthy eating program for patients and employees.
Anniversary celebrated throughout the year
The mural is part of a broad program of events commemorating the hospital's 25th anniversary, combining the popularization of science, the humanization of care, the promotion of healthy habits and the building of bonds with patients and staff. Among the activities that have taken place or are planned:
- “Our Story, Your Health” podcast series with interviews with doctors and patients,
- Dream Campaign, an initiative that collects wishes and messages from cancer patients, their families and employees,
- a charity run to benefit patient associations in Torrevieja,
- “Excerpts” exhibition, in which the protagonists are patients,
- meetings with patient associations in the hospital's area of operation,
- october 3 - seminar on HPV and gynecology,
- october 23 - 25th anniversary celebration,
- november - neurology seminari)m organized by the new integrated unit,
