The Port of Torrevieja, formerly the site of local fairs and now developing as a new entertainment center, will welcome its state-of-the-art underground parking garage with 700 parking spaces this July. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and convenience for those who will use the upcoming entertainment zone, which promises to be a dynamic place with bars, venues and the return of the amusement park.
This emblematic project, which will completely change the dynamics of the port area, is scheduled for completion at the end of this year 2024.The new entertainment zone not only offers modern parking amenities, but will also become a lively spot meetings for residents and visitors, providing a unique experience in the city of Torrevieja. The expected opening of underground parking lots in July marks the beginning of an exciting era for this growing entertainment destination.
This is what the new "Port of Torrevieja" entertainment zone will look like, which is already beginning to take shape
Last week, Empresas del Sol, a leading group of companies located in Vega Baja, unveiled the design for the new "Port of Torrevieja" entertainment zone and center, which will be developed in the tourist city. The presentation was accompanied by Ximo Puig, president of the Community of Valencia; Arcadi España, councillor for territorial policy, public works and mobility; María Luisa Martínez, director general of ports, airports and coast; María Pilar Álvarez, deputy director general of ports, airports and coast; Eduardo Dolón, mayor of Torrevieja; and Enrique Riquelme, president of Empresas del Sol.
Riquelme stressed that this project does not belong to Empresas del Sol alone, but is a joint achievement. "Because if we hadn't worked together, it wouldn't have happened". The project, with a budget exceeding 19 million euros, will transform the Torrevieja port area into a new public, commercial space and entertainment, connecting the city to the port via an elevated promenade. This promenade will provide residents, visitors and tourists with impressive views to enjoy the city's seascape.
The development will take place in an area belonging to the Puertos de la Generalitat Valenciana, aiming to remove the current barrier between the city and the sea, currently reduced to the role of a passage zone, waste storage and parking for vehicles adjacent to the waterfront.
As Enrique Riquelme explained during the presentation, the project has the dual purpose of revitalizing a degraded fishing zone and connect Torrevieja's residents to the port through corridors that connect to the city's emblematic avenues. This center is expected to become a connection point between the city and its port, offering a waterfront promenade, park and space for meetings, family walks, relaxing by the sea, sunbathing or sports.
With an area of more than 17,908 square meters, the new entertainment and restaurant center will include eighteen establishments spread over two floors, as well as an underground floor dedicated to underground parking for about 600 vehicles. The buildings will have viewing terraces and small public meeting spaces, respecting the character of the existing buildings in order to maintain visual harmony between the city and the sea.
The main attractions in the entertainment zone, located on the second floor, include a cinema, bowling alley and recreational games, aimed at people of all ages. The group's president stressed the variety of activities offered, adapting to customer preferences, from land and sports games to creative or cultural activities.
The implementation of this project will not only regenerate the area earmarked for investment, but also its immediate area, making improvements to road infrastructure and expanding public pedestrian spaces along Libertad Avenue, becoming a connection point between Waldo Calero, Castelar, Capdepont and "man of the sea" squares, improving access and mobility.
In his closing remarks, Enrique Riquelme thanked the hard work of more than 25 people over a year and a half to make the new "Port of Torrevieja" entertainment zone a reality
