Polonia on the Costa Blanca in Christmas rhythm - caroling in Torrevieja and Santa Pola

Culture/December 25, 2024

December on the Costa Blanca echoed with Polish carols. Two unique events - in Torrevieja and Santa Pola - became not only a manifestation of the presence of the Polish community in Spain, but also a beautiful example of nurturing Polish traditions abroad. Common singing, festive atmosphere and a sense of unity made these moments memorable for the participants.

Torrevieja: Polish note on the international stage

In the heart of Torrevieja, in the picturesque Plaza de la Constitución, a Polish note sounded as part of the 22nd edition of the international concert \“Carols in the Square.\” The event, bringing together residents of different nationalities, became special this year thanks to the Polish community, which added its musical contribution to the festive atmosphere.

The initiative came from Councilman Jean Poul, who invited the Polish community to attend the concert through the newspaper Polska Costa. The editors contacted Ezequiel, a Polish-speaking Spaniard who runs a Spanish language school and had many Poles among his students. He enthusiastically took on the task of organizing a Polish caroling group.

A Polish note wove its way into the Christmas mosaic of sounds, delighting not only Poles, but also international audiences. It was a special moment - the sounds of Polish carols connected us to our homeland, while allowing us to be part of a local, international community.

Santa Pola: A carol evening in a castle aura

Just two days later, on December 15, the festive sounds of Polish carols filled the walls of the castle in Santa Pola, turning it into a magical space full of warmth and togetherness. It was all thanks to the initiative of Agnieszka Juniewicz, founder of the Hispola Association, and the support of the Polish Consulate General in Barcelona.

Dozens of Poles gathered in the castle hall, and together with the Wypas Band they sang as many as 20 Christmas hits, both Polish and Spanish. The Christmas music united generations - from children to seniors - and joy and emotion were painted on the faces of the participants.

The support of local institutions such as Ayuntamiento de Santa Pola and Santa Pola Cultura played a key role in organizing the event. This allowed the Polish Christmas tradition to appear in the local cultural space, enriching it with unique depth and emotionality.

Why is this so important?

The sounds of Polish carols that resonated on the Costa Blanca in December reminded us that Christmas is a time of closeness and togetherness. Although far from their homeland, the Polish community showed that traditions can bring people together regardless of borders.

Both events - the concert in Torrevieja and the caroling in Santa Pola - are a beautiful testimony to the fact that Poles can co-create local culture, enriching it with a unique emotionality and depth of tradition. This allows Polish culture to blend harmoniously with Spanish tradition, building bridges of understanding and coexistence. This proves that the Polish community is not only visible, but also active and engaged - ready to share what is most beautiful in our culture.
