Renovation work begins on the Levante Pier in Torrevieja with an investment of 6.5 million euros

Torrevieja/October 17, 2024

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, along with the councilor for municipal services, Sandra Sánchez, and representatives of the project's contractor, presented the plan for the renovation and repaving of the Levante Pier, which has already begun and covers a section of 1,247 meters.

The company responsible for the project is CHM Obras e Infraestructuras S.A., and the total cost is 6,543,733 euros (including VAT), with an expected completion time of 9 months, starting on October 7, the day after the signing of the protocol of introduction to the construction site. Work is expected to be completed on July 7.

The mayor announced that pedestrian access on the promenade will be closed starting the first week of November, and instead temporary walkways on the lower level will be opened to ensure safety.

The architectural lighting upgrade project is being financed with funds from the Reconstruction, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation Funds) as part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Conselleria de Innovación, Industria y Comercio, through Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, with a budget of €895,073.

Eduardo Dolón also reported that meetings have been held with the managers of the Marina Salinas Port and the Fishermen's Brotherhood to coordinate the work and minimize the impact on their daily operations, while ensuring that the pace of the work is appropriate.

The project will later connect to the port through a raised platform connecting the pier to the entertainment zone, and will also include upgrades to the public lighting on the parallel road to further highlight one of Torrevieja's most recognizable infrastructures.

Major phases of the work plan include:
• Preparatory work: Structural inspections and surveys, lasting about 2 weeks to coincide with the start of demolition.
• Demolition and dismantling: Removal of cobblestone paving, benches and a concrete jetty. Metal railings, pergolas, benches and wooden flooring will also be dismantled. The work will take about eight weeks.
• Steel structures: Cleaning, corrosion protection and priming of metal components, as well as replacement of those in poor condition.
• Surface: Installation of a technological wooden floor on a reinforced substrate with integrated LED lighting.
• Urban furniture: Installation of benches, railings, pergolas, trash cans and stainless steel fountains throughout the pier.
• Coatings: Concrete treatment and protection, including paint removal and application of additional protection.
• Architectural Lighting: Installation of LED lighting under the pier and on the surface, creating a visual effect with variations in shapes and colors.
• Exterior lighting: Upgrading lighting with marine-resistant materials
