In response to the recent natural disaster that struck the province of Valencia, the Torrevieja City Council initiated a relief collection drive, mobilizing residents, businesses and local volunteers, showing extraordinary solidarity. Since last Friday, more than 78,000 kilograms of materials have been collected for those affected by the disaster at designated collection points such as the Municipal Recreation Center and the Sports Palace.
Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolón expressed his gratitude to all residents and organizations that have made donations. At a recent press conference, he highlighted the selflessness of volunteers and local companies that provided the resources needed to prepare and transport these materials.
Donated materials and their distribution
So far, donations collected include long-term food, hygiene items, water, milk and clothing sorted by gender and age. Donations include: • 33,100 liters of water and 9,980 liters of milk. • 4,860 kilograms of hygiene items. • 19,730 kilograms of long-term food. • 380 kilograms of cleaning supplies. • 7,025 kilograms of clothing and textiles such as towels and blankets.
To transport these donations, the City Council organized the dispatch of several trucks and trailers to collection points in Valencia, such as Massanassa and the City of Arts and Sciences. Despite the harsh weather conditions, Torrevieja residents continued to deliver the donations, which will be further sorted at the Municipal Recreation Center".
Volunteer and relief team deployment
On Friday, a team of 10 Civil Defense volunteers Torrevieja went to the affected areas, establishing their base of operations in Alzira. There, in cooperation with other local teams, they conducted rescue and cleanup operations in areas such as Alfafar and Algemesí. In addition, seven employees of the city's cleaning service joined the cleanup operation on Saturday, accompanied by specialized vehicles.
The solidarity of Torrevieja residents continues to strengthen, as 40 local police officers have offered their assistance on a volunteer basis, waiting to be called upon to support the affected regions as soon as the Autonomous Secretariat for Security and Emergencies requests their presence.
This demonstration of empathy and cooperation between residents, local authorities and businesses underscores Torrevieja's readiness to respond to disasters, strengthening bonds of solidarity in times of hardship.
