Hospital Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja inaugurated the celebration of its 25th anniversary with a unique and emotional event: the unveiling of the Bell of Dreams, a symbol of hope for oncology patients. The ceremony, which took place in the oncology department, was held on the eve of World Cancer Day, celebrated on February 4, and brought together medical personnel, representatives of patient associations and their families.
The event was attended by Dr. Carlos Yago, medical director of Hospital Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja, who stressed the importance of such symbolic gestures, saying: “They remind patients that it is possible to overcome illness. The Dream Bell symbolizes the strength, hope and resilience that characterize cancer patients.”
Alongside him, Nuria Armengol, Director of Nursing, spoke, noting the key role of the nursing team in providing emotional support to patients throughout the treatment process. The event was also attended by Victoria Meneses, president of Afec谩ncer, and Manoli Flores, president of the Alicante Cancer Association, who stressed the importance of such initiatives in raising public awareness and building support for patients.
Dr. Joseba Rebollo, a clinical oncology specialist, noted: “More and more patients are able to ring the Bell of Dreams because treatment is becoming more effective and science is advancing at a promising pace.” The ceremony concluded with a speech by Dr. Rosa Ca帽贸n, head of radiation oncology at Hospital Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja, who reminded the audience that “cancer treatment is a shared task that involves patients, their families, medical staff and society as a whole. Together we are stronger in the fight against the disease.”
The most touching moment of the ceremony was the first striking of the bell by six-year-old Esther, a girl who had defeated the disease. Her gesture filled the attendees with hope and emotion, symbolizing victory over cancer and sending strength to all patients continuing treatment.
The event was attended by members of both associations, the hospital's oncology staff and representatives of the medical teams. It was the first in a series of events planned for this year that will commemorate 25 years of Quir贸nsalud Torrevieja Hospital's commitment to caring for the health and lives of patients.

Medical education and promotion of healthy lifestyles will be another key component of the celebration. As part of this initiative, a podcast will be launched, in which the hospital's specialists will impart knowledge about health in an accessible way. The celebration will also have a charitable dimension - there will be a run in which participants will collect steps for a worthy cause.
The celebration program will culminate in October with a festive event that will bring together patients, their families, health care workers and hospital partners.
