Repair of Coastal Path in Cabo Roig completed after storm damage
Repair work on the blue footpath (Sendero Azul) in Cabo Roig, on the stretch between the beaches of Cala Capitán and La Caleta, has been completed. Thanks to the smooth operations, this popular promenade will reopen to residents and tourists in the next few hours.
Causes and extent of damage
The work was necessary after heavy rainfall in February and March, coupled with strong storm surges, severely damaged the stone retaining wall on which the waterfront path is supported. two sections of the wall collapsed completely, depriving parts of the boardwalk of stable ground and creating a real danger for walkers.
Since the site falls under the public domain of sea and land, the Orihuela City Council first had to draw up the relevant technical documentation and obtain the necessary permission from the Coastal Authority (Costas) before starting any activities.
Workflow and implementation
The repair consisted of reinforcing and consolidating the wall with rock blocks (known as stone erratics). Previously, the damaged zones were cleaned and the collapsed sections were completely rebuilt, which helped guarantee the stability of the path and the safety of pedestrians. The work was carried out simultaneously at two different points along the trail.
Representatives of local authorities and the municipal company Ecoplan highlighted the efficiency and speed of the technical teams. The intervention was crucial to restore one of the most cherished and frequented sites on the local coast as soon as possible.
The entire renovation - from the time of approval from the Coastal Authority - took about two weeks, allowing traffic to be fully restored on this section as early as this Friday.
