A Spanish Rhythm on the Vistula: Culture or Business?

A Spanish Rhythm on the Vistula: Culture or Business?

Flamenco in Warsaw’s clubs, Spanish fiestas in Polish cities, and a growing interest in the Spanish language—Spain is winning over Polish hearts at a breakneck pace. Is this just a cultural fascination, or perhaps a side effect of the investment boom across the Pyrenees?

Poles are rediscovering Spain; Spanish ranks third among the most commonly studied foreign languages in Poland, just behind English and German; Latin American film festivals, flamenco concerts, and even traditional Spanish fiestas. These events draw crowds of Spain enthusiasts and offer a taste of the authentic atmosphere of Iberian culture.

One example is the annual festivals during which Polish and Spanish artists perform together, presenting both classical pieces and modern arrangements. In 2025, the concerts held as part of “Spanish Event” attracted particular interest; organized by Turespaña and Nekera, during which Polish audiences could immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a Spanish fiesta, discovering not only the music but also the flavors and traditions of Spain.

There is also no shortage of smaller initiatives—flamenco workshops, guitar concerts, and events featuring Spanish music at clubs and cultural centers. Events such as the “Road Show Meet Spain” in several Polish cities combine networking, tapas tastings, and presentations of Spanish destinations with concerts and performances by artists. All of this means that Spanish music is becoming an increasingly prominent part of Poles’ everyday lives.

The fascination with Spain in Poland is a multifaceted phenomenon.

On the one hand, Spanish culture appeals with its openness, zest for life, and energy—qualities that Poles are increasingly seeking in their everyday lives. On the other hand, Spanish music, cuisine, and lifestyle have become synonymous with exoticism that’s right at their fingertips. Student exchange programs, such as Erasmus, which allow young Poles to experience Spanish culture firsthand, also play a significant role. Upon returning home, many of them become ambassadors for the Spanish lifestyle, inspiring others to discover this culture. And, of course, there are real estate investments. The data doesn’t lie—in 2024, Poles purchased over 4,200 properties in Spain, 1,095 more than in 2023. This represents a record increase of 35% compared to the previous year and more than four times the figure for 2019. Among foreign investors, Poles accounted for 4.53% of the Spanish real estate market.

We are most likely to buy in the Valencian Community, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, and Murcia. The typical Polish buyer is someone between the ages of 45 and 65 who is looking for a home on the Spanish coast as a long-term investment.

Is the spectacular surge in interest in Spanish culture a side effect of the investment boom? Partly, yes. Investments in real estate naturally lead to a deeper understanding of Spanish culture. Poles buying homes in Málaga or Valencia discover local folklore, learn the language, and build relationships with the local community. This, in turn, fuels demand for Spanish culture in Poland.

A cultural renaissance and an investment boom are two sides of the same phenomenon—a growing fascination with Spain as a country that offers not only sunshine and safety, but also a wealth of traditions that increasingly resonate with Polish sensibilities.
