Why do we need essential oils?

Lifestyle/March 05, 2024

Aromatherapy, from the Greek, means scent treatment and uses the healing properties of EO essential oils.

EOs are volatile aromatic compounds that occur naturally in some plants, and are extracted from flowers, leaves, roots, bark, seeds by steam distillation or cold pressing (such as citrus peels). They are produced continuously by plants to defend against viruses, bacteria, fungi and to attract insects. These benefits, when used properly, can be transferred to the human body.

Here are some of the actions of EOs: antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic, analgesic, sleep-inducing, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, antitumor and many others.

EOs have powerful properties due to their biochemical composition. One EO can contain dozens to hundreds of compounds that beneficially affect our body, which determines their multidirectional activity. Due to the high concentration of substances they contain, EOs have a much stronger effect than traditional herbal mixtures, so they are used as medicines in small doses. Just one drop has therapeutic properties.

e.g. 1 drop of peppermint EO is equivalent to 28 cups of mint leaf infusion. In addition to its use in the treatment and prevention of many diseases including mental ones such as depression have applications in cosmetics and the food industry. EOs have been used for millennia in many cultures for their health-promoting properties. Modern trends related to a more holistic approach to taking care of one's own health naturally, as well as numerous scientific studies confirming the therapeutic properties of EOs, have led to a very strong interest in this primary healing method. The use of EO is simple, but requires caution due to its high concentration. There are more than 100 EOs, which is why you should start your adventure with them by consulting an experienced oil educator to reap greater benefits and pleasure from aromatherapy.
